Thanks to @sardinetrawler we can now see what an adorable little child Mesut Ozil was. Not quite sure how he came across this but we’re glad that he did.
Earlier today a piece ran in the Times [paywall] about Ozil’s football beginnings in which his father turned up at his first boys club, DJK Westfalia and said if they used his son they would never lose another game. He was wrong – they lost one in three years. Mocked initially because of his slight size as a child he shut everyone up by scoring three goals in five minutes.
Fabian Maraun, who played with him in those early days, said
“My dad told me what Mesut’s dad had said. We laughed about it. It was a big claim. The other teams tended to laugh when they saw Mesut, too, because he was so much smaller than everyone else. Then he started playing.”
“When he had scored three goals in the first five minutes, everyone stopped laughing.”
